(Muhammad), remind them, by the Grace of your Lord, that you are neither a soothsayer or an insane person. 29 Or do they say: A poet, we wait for him the evil accidents of time. 30 Say: 'Wait if you will; I shall be waiting with you' 31 Do their minds prompt them to say such things, or are they a people immersed in transgression?” 32 Or do they say: He has forged it. Nay! they do not believe. 33 Let them produce a discourse like it if they are true in their claim. 34 Have they not been created by aught, or are they the creators? 35 Or have they created the heavens and the earth? In fact they are certain of nothing. 36 Or do they have your Lord's treasures in their keeping? Or have absolute authority over them? 37 Or have they a stairway (to heaven), by means of which they listen (to the talks of the angels)? Then let their listener produce some manifest proof. 38 Or has He only daughters and ye have sons? 39 Or do you ask them for a reward, so that they are over-burdened by debt? 40 Or is the hidden with them, by which they pass judgements? 41 Or, do they desire to outwit? The unbelievers are the outwitted. 42 Have they, then, any deity other than God? Utterly remote is God, in His limitless glory, from anything to which men may ascribe a share in His divinity! 43 If they should see a part of the heavens falling down, they would say, "A mass of clouds," 44 So leave them alone until they face the day when they will be struck dead from terror 45 The Day when their guile shall not relieve them a thing, and they shall not be helped. 46 Surely a chastisement awaits the wrong-doers even before the coming of that Day; but most of them do not know. 47 So wait patiently (O Muhammad) for thy Lord's decree, for surely thou art in Our sight; and hymn the praise of thy Lord when thou uprisest, 48 and proclaim the praise of thy Lord in the night, and at the declining of the stars. 49
