Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 Or do they benefit you, or do you harm?" 73 They said, "No, but our fathers worshipped them." 74 Thereupon, Abraham said: "Have you seen (with your eyes) those whom you have been worshipping, 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 He who gives me food and drink; 79 And heals me when I am sick, 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 and who, [hope, will forgive me my faults on Judgment Day! 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 And make me of the heirs of the garden of bliss 85 and forgive my father, for he was among the astray. 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 When Paradise shall be brought near to the God-fearing 90 and the Fire will be uncovered for those who strayed, 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 and the hosts of iblis all together. 95 They will say while they dispute therein, 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 It was naught but the sinners that led us astray; 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 Were there for us a return, we would be of the believers. 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
