The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 a fitting requital, 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
