The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
