The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
