The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
When the sun is covered, 1 when the stars are thrown down, 2 and when the mountains are made to vanish, 3 And when the camels big with young are abandoned, 4 The wild beasts stampede on the run, 5 and when the seas are set on fire, 6 When souls are reunited (with the bodies) 7 And when the female infant buried alive is asked 8 for what crime she was slain, 9 And when the written pages of deeds (good and bad) of every person shall be laid open; 10 And when the sky is torn away, 11 And when Hell-fire shall be kindled to fierce ablaze. 12 and Paradise brought nigh: 13 then, each soul shall know what it has produced. 14 So I swear by the retreating stars - 15 orbiting, disappearing; 16 and the night that falls, 17 And the breath of morning 18 Most surely it is the Word of an honored messenger, 19 of power, given a rank by the Owner of the Throne 20 Obeyed there [in the heavens] and trustworthy. 21 And your comrade is not mad. 22 he truly beheld him [the angel] on the clear horizon. 23 nor does he grudge (conveying this knowledge about) the Unseen; 24 Nor is this the word of an outcast devil. 25 So where are you going? 26 It is naught but a Reminder unto all beings, 27 for everyone of you who wishes to follow the Straight Way; 28 Though you cannot desire except as God will, the Lord of all the worlds. 29
