And indeed We did send Musa (Moses) with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) to Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs (inviting them to Allah's Religion of Islam) He said: "Verily, I am a Messenger of the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)." 46 But when he brought them Our signs, at once they laughed at them. 47 And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed them but it was greater than its fellow, and We seized them with torment, in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allah's Religion (Islamic Monotheism)]. 48 And they said: magician! supplicate thy Lord for us for that which He hath covenanted with thee; verily we shall let ourselves be guided. 49 Then when We had removed from them the torment, behold they were breaking their promise. 50 And Pharaoh caused a proclamation to be made among his people saying: O my people! Is not mine the sovereignty of Egypt and these rivers flowing under me? Can ye not then discern? 51 Or am I better than this man, who is contemptible and scarcely makes things clear? 52 “So why was he not bestowed with armlets of gold? Or angels should have come with him staying at his side!” 53 Thus he incited his people to levity, and they obeyed him: for, behold, they were people depraved! 54 Then when they displeased Us, We inflicted a retribution on them, so We drowned them all together, 55 And We made them (a people) of the Past and an Example to later ages. 56
