Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha Mim 1 By the Clear Book 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 (His Lord answered): 'Set out with My worshipers in the night, for you will surely be followed. 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
