The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour of Resurrection drew near and the moon split asunder. 1 Whenever they see a miracle, they turn away from it and say, "This is just a powerful magic". 2 And they belied, and they followed their lusts; and every affair cometh to a final goal. 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 Effective wisdom; but warnings avail not. 5 Therefore, turn away from them. On the Day when the Caller summons them to a terrible thing, 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 running (with their necks extended) to the Caller. The unbelievers will say: 'This is indeed a harsh Day' 8 ۞ There belied before them the people of Nuh. So they belied Our bondman and said: a madman; and moreover he was reproven. 9 Thereupon he prayed unto his Lord: verily am overcome, so vindicate me. 10 So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth. 11 We caused the earth to burst forth with springs so that the waters could come together for a predestined purpose. 12 And We bore him upon a well-planked vessel well-caulked 13 Sailing, before Our eyes, a reward for him who was denied. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 16 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 17 The 'Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning? 18 We indeed sent towards them a severe windstorm, on a day the ill luck of which lasted upon them forever. 19 It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. 20 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
