Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the break of Day 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Join My servants. 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
