In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
KaafHaYa'aeenSaad. 1 The mention of thy Lord's mercy unto His servant Zachariah; 2 When he called out his Lord (Allah) a call in secret, 3 He submitted, “O my Lord – my bones have become weak and old age shines forth from my head, and O my Lord, I have never been disappointed in my prayer to you.” 4 And indeed, I fear the successors after me, and my wife has been barren, so give me from Yourself an heir 5 who will be my heir and an heir to the House of Jacob, and make him, my Lord, satisfied' 6 [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name." 7 He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" 8 He said: "So (it will be). Your Lord says; It is easy for Me. Certainly I have created you before, when you had been nothing!" 9 [Zachariah] prayed: "O my Sustainer! Appoint a sign for me!" Said [the angel]: "Thy sign shall be that for full three nights [and days] thou wilt not speak unto men". 10 So Zakariya came out to his people from him chamber: He told them by signs to celebrate Allah's praises in the morning and in the evening. 11 [And when the son was born and grew up, he was told,] "O John! Hold fast unto the divine writ with [all thy] strength!" - for We granted him wisdom while he was yet a little boy, 12 And piety (for all creatures) as from Us, and purity: He was devout, 13 and full of piety towards his parents; and never was he haughty or rebellious. 14 Peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day he will die, and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
