O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Verily We! anon We shall cast upon thee a weighty word. 5 Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 The Lord of the East and the West-- there is no god but He-- therefore take Him for a protector. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 Verily with Us are heavy fetters and Scorch. 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
