The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 stay away from sins 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 and who still desires more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
