(The tribe of) Thamud rejected warnings 23 For they said: "A man! Alone from among us, that we are to follow? Truly, then we should be in error and distress or madness!" 24 Hath the admonition been laid upon him from amongst us! Aye! he is a liar insolent. 25 "Tomorrow they will know who is the impudent liar! 26 We shall send the she-camel as a trial for them; so watch their end with patience. 27 And tell them that the water is to be divided between them: Each one's right to drink being brought forward (by suitable turns). 28 Then they called their comrade, and he took in hand, and hamstrung her. 29 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 30 Then We sent a single blast against them and they became like dry stubble which has been trampled upon. 31 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 32 LOT'S PEOPLE [too] gave the lie to all [Our] warnings: 33 [and so,] behold, We let loose upon them a deadly tempest; and only Lot 's kinsfolk did We save at the break of dawn, 34 as a favour from Us. Thus do We reward those who give thanks. 35 And he indeed had warned them of Our blow, but they did doubt the warnings. 36 Then they even solicited his guests from him, whereupon We blotted out their eyes, (telling them): “Now have a taste of My chastisement and My warnings.” 37 One early morning Our torment brought upon them utter destruction. 38 Now taste My punishment after My warnings! 39 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 40
