The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children, 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 and amass [wealth] and thereupon withhold [it from their fellow-men]. 18 ۞ Surely man is created of a hasty temperament 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. 35
