Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha'. Mim. 1 By the luminious Book. 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
