The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Hour has drawn nigh: the moon is split. 1 But if they [who reject all thought of the Last Hour] were to see a sign [of its approach,] they would turn aside and say: "An ever-recurring delusion!" 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them), 4 Mature wisdom;- but (the preaching of) Warners profits them not. 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ There belied before them the people of Nuh. So they belied Our bondman and said: a madman; and moreover he was reproven. 9 so he cried out to his Lord, saying, "I am overcome, so help me!" 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. 12 We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, 13 which sailed on under Our supervision: a reward for him who had been shown ingratitude. 14 And We left it as a sign. Is there anyone who will be warned? 15 Then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 16 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). 20 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
