The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
