a good many of olden times, 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 and a shade of thick, pitch-black smoke, 43 [shadows] neither cooling nor soothing. 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers – 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 This is their reception on the Day of Justice. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
