۞ The Inevitable Reality - 1 And what is that indubitable event? 2 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the reality is! 3 Samood and Ad called the striking calamity a lie. 4 As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the lightning. 5 and the Ad were destroyed by a furiously raging wind-storm 6 which He willed against them for seven nights and eight days without cease, so that in the end thou couldst see those people laid low [in death,] as though they were so many [uprooted] trunks of hollow palm trees: 7 Do you now see any trace of them? 8 And Fir'awn and those before him and the overturned cities committed sin. 9 They disobeyed the Messenger of their Lord and He seized them with torment which increased with time. 10 When the water rose in flood, We bore you in the ark, 11 So that We may make it a reminder to you, and that the retaining ear might retain it. 12 With the first blast of sound from the trumpet, 13 And the earth and the mountains shall be borne and the twain shall be crushed with a single crash. 14 Then on that Day shall happen the Event. 15 And the sky will be rent asunder, for on that Day it will be so frail. 16 And the angels will be on its sides; and on that day, eight angels will carry the Throne of your Lord above them. 17 On that day ye will be exposed; not a secret of you will be hidden. 18 Then as to him who will be vouchsafed his book in his right hand, he shall say: here! read my book! 19 Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account." 20 Then he shall find himself in a life of bliss; 21 in a lofty paradise, 22 The fruit clusters of which are hanging down. 23 Such people will be told, "Eat and drink with pleasure as the reward for what you did in the past". 24 But as for him who will be given his Record in his left hand, will say: "I wish that I had not been given my Record! 25 And not known my account! 26 I wish my death had been the decisive one. 27 Of no use was even my wealth. 28 my authority is gone from me.' 29 "Seize him and manacle him, 30 and then roast him in Hell, 31 Then fasten him with a chain seventy cubits long: 32 Indeed, he did not use to believe in Allah, the Most Great, 33 "And would not encourage the feeding of the indigent! 34 Therefor hath he no lover here this day, 35 Nor any food save filthy corruption. 36 “Which none except the guilty shall eat.” 37
