The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
