Nay! By the moon 32 Consider the night when it departs, 33 and by the day when it dawns (with its radiance), 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 As a warning unto men, 36 a warning to everyone of you whether he would like to come forward or lag behind. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 except the Companions of the Right. 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 About the guilty: 41 "What has brought you into the Fire of Hell ?" 42 They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, 43 and neither did we feed the needy; 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 Until the certainty had come upon us. 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 Why then do they turn away from the admonition 49 As if they were startled donkeys - 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 In fact every one of them wants to be given open books. 52 This will certainly never be the case! In fact, they are not afraid of the Day of Judgment. 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 So whosoever willeth may heed it. 55 But none will remember, unless Allah wills, He is the Owner of fear, the Owner of forgiveness. 56
