Nay, by the moon, 32 And the night when it withdraweth 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 hell is certainly the greatest calamity. 35 A warning to mankind, 36 to everyone of you, whether he chooses to come forward or to hang back! 37 Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds; 38 save the Companions of the Right; 39 who shall be in the Gardens, and shall ask 40 And (ask) of the Sinners: 41 "What has caused you to enter Hell?" 42 They will answer: "We were not among those who prayed; 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 Till death overtook us. 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the admonition 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Nay, but everyone of them desireth that he should be given open pages (from Allah). 52 No indeed; but they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 By no means! Verily this Qur'an is an admonition. 54 So whosoever will (let him read it), and receive admonition (from it)! 55 But they will not benefit from it unless Allah Himself so wills. He is worthy to be feared; and He is worthy to forgive (those that fear Him). 56
