The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 But they belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, and that which Our Prophet (Peace be upon him) brought) completely. 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
