He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you attended to him, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 olives, dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
