The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is cleft asunder, 1 And obeys its Lord and it must. 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, 4 obeying its Lord, as it must do! 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 Then he who is given his Record in his right hand, 7 He truly will receive an easy reckoning 8 And will return to his people full of joy. 9 But as for he who is given his record behind his back, 10 He shall presently call for death, 11 And shall enter a blazing Fire, and made to taste its burning. 12 Verily, he was among his people in joy! 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 Surely yes, why not? Indeed his Lord is seeing him. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 And [by] the night and what it envelops 17 and the moon when it grows full, 18 That you shall most certainly enter one state after another. 19 What is the matter with them? Why do they not believe? 20 Why, when the Quran is recited to them, do they not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 Yea those who disbelieve belie. 22 but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts. 23 So announce to them a painful torment. 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
