The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And made them virgins. 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
