۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 When he said unto his father and his folk: What are these images unto which ye pay devotion? 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error." 54 They said, “Have you brought the Truth to us, or are you just making fun?” 55 He said, “In fact, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the One Who created them; and I am of those who testify to it.” 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the biggest of them, that they might turn (and address themselves) to it. 58 They asked (on return): "Who has done this to our gods? He is surely a mischief-monger." 59 They said, 'We heard a young man making mention of them, and he was called Abraham.' 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 They said, "Abraham, was it you who did this to our deities?" 62 He said: But this, their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak. 63 Then they turned to one another and said, "It is you yourselves who are in the wrong," 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?".. 67 They said, “Burn him and help your Gods, if you want to.” 68 We said, “O fire, become cool and peaceful upon Ibrahim.” 69 And they intended to do him an evil, but We made them the worst losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 We granted him Isaac and Jacob as a gift and helped both of them to become righteous people. 72 And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakah; and they were worshippers of Us. 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 Thus We admitted him to Our grace. He is surely one of the righteous. 75
