Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 The command that We have been sending 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between them, if only you would really believe, 7 There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 and fields of grain, and noble dwellings, 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
