He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 fruits, and grass. 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
