The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a host of the ancients 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and continuous shade, 30 and flowing water 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 and made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
