The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient with gracious patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 but, We see it as near! 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed, man is born impatient: 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 and who accept as true the [coming of the] Day of Judgment; 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 who guard their privates 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 So those who desire more than this – it is they who are the transgressors. 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 These it is who in the gardens [of paradise] shall be honoured! 35
