Thamud (people also) belied the warnings. 23 So they said, “What! Shall we follow a man from among us? If we do, we are indeed astray, and insane!” 24 "Is it that the Reminder is sent to him [Prophet Salih (Saleh)] alone from among us? Nay, he is an insolent liar!" 25 Ah! they will know on the morrow, which is the liar, the insolent one! 26 Lo! We are sending the she-camel as a test for them; so watch them and have patience; 27 And inform them that the water is shared between them; every share of the water shall be regulated. 28 But they called to their companion, and he took a sword in hand, and hamstrung (her). 29 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 30 We sent a single blast against them, and they were reduced to husks of a decayed fence. 31 We made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would take heed? 32 The people of Lot rejected Our warning. 33 We loosed against them a squall of pebbles except the folk of Lot; We delivered them at the dawn -- 34 As a favour from Us. Thus We recompense him who giveth thanks. 35 Lot warned them of Our punishment, but they disputed the warnings -- 36 They lusted after his guests, so We put out their eyes (and said): "Taste My punishment and My commination." 37 And certainly a lasting chastisement overtook them in the morning. 38 "Taste My punishment now that you have scorned My warnings!" 39 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 40
