The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER those [stars] that rise only to set, 1 By the meteors rushing, 2 by the swimmers (angels) swimming gently 3 and vie with the others (in carrying out their Lord's behests); 4 Then arrange to do (the Commands of their Lord), 5 On the day when the first trumpet sound blasts 6 Followed by oft-repeated (commotions): 7 Hearts on that Day will be throbbing; 8 Their eyes cast down. 9 (Now) they are saying: Shall we really be restored to our first state 10 What! when we are rotten bones? 11 They say: that then shall be a losing return. 12 But it shall be only a single cry, 13 When, behold, they find themselves over the earth alive after their death, 14 Has there come to you the story of Musa (Moses)? 15 When his Lord called to him in Tuwa's holy vale? 16 saying 'Go to Pharaoh, he has become exceedingly insolent, 17 and say: "Will you purify yourself, 18 And that I guide you to your Lord, so you should fear Him? 19 Then [Musa (Moses)] showed him the great sign (miracles). 20 But (Pharaoh) rejected it and disobeyed (guidance); 21 Then he turned his back, striving hard (against Allah). 22 And he gathered [his people] and called out 23 and proclaimed, and he said, 'I am your Lord, the Most High!' 24 So Allah, seized him with punishment for his last [i.e. his saying: "I am your lord, most high") (see Verse 79:24)] and first [(i.e. his saying, "O chiefs! I know not that you have a god other than I" (see Verse 28:38)] transgression. 25 In this there is a lesson for those who have fear of God. 26
