The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you for it. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 127 “What! You build a structure on every height, to laugh at the passers-by?” 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
