The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Mount (Sinai), 1 And the Scripture inscribed 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 There is none that can ward it off. 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 Will be the day of woe for those 11 Who are playing in falsehood. 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 rejoicing in all their Lord has given them, and their Lord will guard them against the punishment of Hell. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. 27 Before, we were supplicating to Him. He is the Giving, the Most Merciful' 28
