And the Thamud belied the warnings. 23 And they said: a mere human being from amongst us, and single! shall we follow him! verily then we should fall in error and madness. 24 Why - on him alone from among all of us should a [divine] reminder have been bestowed? Nay, but he is a boastful liar!" 25 (To him We said): 'Tomorrow they shall know who is the arrogant liar. 26 Indeed, We are sending the she-camel as trial for them, so watch them and be patient. 27 And let them know that the water [of their wells] is to be divided between them, with each share of water equitably apportioned." 28 In response they called their companion – he therefore caught and hamstrung the she-camel. 29 How [terrible] were My punishment and My warnings! 30 Verily We, We sent upon them one shout, and they became as the stubble of a fold-builder. 31 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 32 The people of Lut belied the warnings. 33 Surely We sent upon them a stonestorm, except Lut's followers; We saved them a little before daybreak, 34 as a favour from Us. Thus do We reward those who give thanks. 35 Surely Lot warned his people that We shall seize them (with Our chastisement), but they doubted the warnings. 36 They even asked of him his guests for an ill purpose. Then We blinded their eyes (and said): Taste now My punishment after My warnings! 37 One early morning Our torment brought upon them utter destruction. 38 “So taste My punishment, and My warnings!” 39 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 40
