The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must; 2 And when the earth has been extended 3 and casts forth whatever is in it, and becomes utterly void, 4 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed! 5 O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). 6 Then whoso is given his account in his right hand 7 He surely will receive an easy reckoning, 8 And he shall return unto his people joyfully. 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 He surely will invoke destruction 11 And he shall roast into a Blaze. 12 He used to be happy with his own people; 13 Never thinking he will return. 14 But he will indeed! His Lord was ever watching him. 15 I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 And by the moon when it is at the full, 18 That you will climb from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them, then, that they believe not 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 In fact, they reject the Quran, 22 God is quite aware of what they are storing in their hearts. 23 So give them news of painful punishment, 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
