Surely We brought man into being out of dry ringing clay which was wrought from black mud, 26 And the jinn, We created aforetime from the smokeless flame of fire. 27 Behold! thy Lord said to the angels: "I am about to create man, from sounding clay from mud moulded into shape; 28 Then when I have formed him and breathed into him of My Spirit fall down unto him prostrate. 29 So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together: 30 Except Iblis (Satan), - he refused to be among the prostrators. 31 "How is it, O Iblis," said (the Lord), "you did not join those who bowed in homage?" 32 He said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter's clay of black mud altered! 33 (Allah) said: 'Begone, you are accursed! 34 And verily on thee shall be the curse till the Day of Requital. 35 He said: 'My Lord, reprieve me till the Day they are raised' 36 Said He, 'Thou art among the ones that are respited 37 Till the period of the time made known. 38 [Whereupon Iblis] said: "O my Sustainer! Since Thou hast thwarted me, I shall indeed make [all that is evil] on earth seem goodly to them, and shall most certainly beguile them - into grievous error 39 "Except Your chosen, (guided) slaves among them." 40 Allah said: "Here is the path that leads straight to Me. 41 Indeed, My servants - no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators. 42 Gehenna (Hell) will be the promise for all of them. 43 It hath seven gates, and each gate hath an appointed portion. 44
