The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the prodigal, 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 Replied he: "This she-camel shall have a share of water, and you shall have a share of water, on the days appointed [therefor]; 155 Do not treat her unkindly or the punishment of a grievous day will fall on you." 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159
