The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 a fitting requital, 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
