The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He says, “I destroyed vast wealth.” 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 and being, withal, of those who have attained to faith, and who enjoin upon one another patience in adversity, and enjoin upon one another compassion. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
