The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
