۞ We bestowed aforetime on Abraham his rectitude of conduct, and well were We acquainted with him. 51 When he said to his father and his people, “What are these idols before whom you squat (worshipping)?” 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: 'Truly, you and your fathers are in clear error' 54 They asked: "Hast thou come unto us [with this claim] in all earnest - or art thou one of those jesters?" 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away." 57 Then he made them fragments, all except the big one of them, that haply unto it they may return. 58 They said: "Who has done this to our aliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers." 59 They said: "We heard a young man talking (against) them who is called Ibrahim (Abraham)." 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 They asked, "Abraham, did you do this to our idols?" 62 He said: But this, their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak. 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 Then they turned to themselves (their first thought and said): "Indeed you [Ibrahim (Abraham)] know well that these (idols) speak not!" 65 He said, “What! You worship, instead of Allah, one that neither benefits you nor harms you?” 66 Fie on you and those you worship besides God! Will you not understand?" 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 And they intended to do him an evil, but We made them the worst losers. 70 and We delivered him, and Lot, unto the land that We had blessed for all beings. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac, and Jacob as an additional gift, and made them righteous. 72 and made them leaders who would guide [others] in accordance with Our behest: for We inspired them [with a will] to do good works, and to be constant in prayer, and to dispense charity: and Us [alone] did they worship. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 We admitted him to Our Mercy, he was among the righteous. 75
