The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the mount. 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 On a parchment scroll unrolled, 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 And the swollen sea 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. 13 “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 They shall pass therein from one to another a cup wherein there shall be nothing vain nor any sin. 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 25 They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
