In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O THOU enwrapped one! 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 But keep in remembrance the name of thy Lord and devote thyself to Him whole-heartedly. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 for, behold, heavy fetters [await them] with Us, and a blazing fire, 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On the day when the earth and the hills rock, and the hills become a heap of running sand. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
