Nay! By the moon 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 and by the day when it dawns (with its radiance), 34 hell is certainly the greatest calamity. 35 As a warning to humanity - 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except the companions of the right, 39 who will be in Paradise 40 concerning the sinners, 41 "What has caused you to enter Hell?" 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], 45 "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 Till the Inevitable came unto us. 47 So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 as if they were startled asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Is it that everyone of them wants to receive a heavenly book addressed to him personally? 52 No, indeed they have no fear of the Everlasting Life. 53 There is no doubt that the Quran is a guide. 54 so whoever wills shall remember it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
