The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Of what ask they? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Surely a time is fixed for the Day of Judgement. 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
