The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
A questioner asked concerning a torment about to befall 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 they see it as being far off; 6 but, We see it as near! 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 and all those on earth. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 except those who are steadfast 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 and who guard their prayers [from all worldly intent]. 34 These it is who in the gardens [of paradise] shall be honoured! 35
