He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing and joyful, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
