And when the messengers came unto the family of Lot, 61 he said: "Behold, you are people unknown [here]!" 62 "We have come to you with news," they said, "of what your people doubt; 63 “And we have brought to you a true command, and indeed we are truthful.” 64 Go, then, with thy household while it is yet night, with thyself following them in the rear; and let none of you look back, but proceed whither you are bidden." 65 And We revealed to him this decree, that the roots of these shall be cut off in the morning. 66 And the people of the city came [unto Lot,] rejoicing at the glad tiding. 67 He said: 'These are my guests; do not shame me. 68 And fear Allah and do not disgrace me." 69 They said, “Had we not forbidden you from meddling in the affairs of anyone?” 70 He said: "There are my daughters (to marry), if ye must act (so)." 71 By thy life, they wandered blindly in their dazzlement, 72 So the rumbling overtook them (while) entering upon the time of sunrise; 73 We laid it (the city) upside down and rained stones of baked clay upon them. 74 Surely in that are signs for such as mark; 75 And verily! They (the cities) were right on the highroad (from Makkah to Syria i.e. the place where the Dead Sea is now). 76 surely in this there is a sign for those who believe. 77 And the Companions of the Wood were also wrong-doers; 78 We afflicted them with punishment. Both people had clear (divine) authority among them. 79
